“Celebrating and sharing together Christ’s love for all people.”

Pastoral Ponderings

May 2024

During this season of Eastertide, I have been preaching on the book of 1 John, which can be summed up in one word:  LOVE. These four letters hold the power to both hurt and to heal, to repair relationships and to diminish them. No greater love has been given to all creation than the love God has given us through the life, death and resurrection of God’s only son, Jesus Christ. We continue to be Easter people, resurrected from the self-imposed estrangement that can happen when we forget WHO we are and WHOSE we are. We are beloved children of God, called by name and claimed by our Creator. It is a message that takes an entire lifetime to sink in and permeate us to our core. That is why we need to hear this message over and over again and to write it in our hearts: We are LOVED. You are loved. I am loved. Even when we are at our most unlovable, God loves us and is with us. That, my friends, is the Good News! May we bask in this knowledge to the extent that we are filled to overflowing, spilling out, pouring out the love of Christ to one another, our neighbors and to all of God’s creation. May it be so.
